Causes of Cellulite

Cellulite happens when skin above fatty tissues is pulled downward by fibrous bands. The skin’s surface then looks dimpled. The most common cellulite areas are your breasts, tummy, buttocks, hips, and thighs.

There are three common causes of cellulite you can easily relate to. The first is genetics. A family member may have it, so there’s more chance of you developing it.

The second is poor food choices. If you think chips, sodas, and baked goodies won’t harm you, they are actually high in fat, salt, and sugar. These foods contribute to fluid retention, cellulite formation, and fat cell enlargement.

The third is a sedentary lifestyle. A study shows that sitting most of the time increases cellulite formation. This is because it weakens the muscle layer of blood vessels that restricts blood flow to fat tissue. Unfortunately, women are more prone to having cellulite than men. The reason behind this occurrence is due to biological and physical features. Women’s bodies have different tissue, muscle, and fat distribution than men’s. A study reveals that although cellulite is not harmful, 80-90% of women may have it regardless of weight. Moreover, the thickness of your skin affects the appearance of cellulite.

Who Needs Cellulite Reduction

A lot of women and some men have cellulite. But how would you know if you need cellulite reduction? Here’s a quick quiz to help you determine if a cellulite reduction is appropriate for you. Answer “yes” or “no” to the following statements.

  • I am generally healthy.
  • I am within a healthy weight for my height
  • I want to reduce the cellulite in my problem area.
  • I am bothered by what my cellulite looks like.
  • I understand that cellulite reduction may not totally resolve my problem.

You might be a potential cellulite reduction candidate if you answered “yes” to the majority of the statements. However, it is still best to consult us if you are considering cellulite therapy like QWO injectables.

Cellulite reduction does not permanently eliminate your cellulite. So, expect that some therapies for cellulite reduction may take more than one session. Moreover, these therapies have different outcomes and side effects for every person.

QWO vs. Cellulite Reduction Therapies

QWO is a non-surgical and minimally invasive therapy that reduces moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks. QWO contains an enzyme that breaks down collagen in the fibrous bands. As a result, it stops the formation of cellulite.

Getting the shot takes around 10 to 15 minutes. You may see results in about three to ten weeks, depending on how your body responds to the therapy. Medical practitioners usually give three shots, spaced 21 days apart.

Some women may experience local pain, redness, or mild swelling at the injection site. Researchers conducted two trials called the Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum-aaes for the Treatment of Cellulite in Women. The results reveal these discomforts are only temporary – take it from the 843 women who participated in phases 2 and 3 of the clinical trials

Further, the results of the trials show QWO as safe and effective for moderate to severe cellulite of the buttocks.

Topical Solutions

Topical solutions such as creams and lotions are the least harmful. Unlike QWO cellulite therapy, you don’t get a prick from a needle. Many women opt for these topicals to improve collagen production.

Researchers gave 44 healthy women either topical gel for cellulite reduction or a placebo for three months. The results show that 81% of the women who applied the gel exhibited reduced cellulite.

Another study with a focus on creams arrived at a similar conclusion. The 15 participants applied a slimming cream to their thighs and inner arms twice daily for six weeks. Again, results show that the slimming cream reduced cellulite without adverse reactions.

However, not all experts are convinced of these findings. They argue that you need to apply topical solutions frequently for an extended period to see actual results.

Massage

Massage is another non-invasive therapy other than topicals. You use an electrical vibrational massage device. To prevent friction on your skin, apply silicone oil.

A total of 37 participants used this therapy for 12 weeks. They were then asked to answer a questionnaire to share their observations. The results show an improvement in the appearance of cellulite.

However, some experts believe massage therapy doesn’t cure cellulite. Instead, it only improves the skin’s appearance and makes cellulite less noticeable.

Non-laser Cellulite Reduction

These non-invasive therapies include infrared light, radiofrequency (RF), and ultrasound. They heat or stimulate the area to create collagen and reduce cellulite and fat. Researchers conducted a study on the efficacy of RF therapy. The study revealed that RF devices reduced abdominal cellulite based on 60% patient satisfaction. However, an earlier systematic review of 67 studies reveals no clear evidence of RF and similar therapies reducing cellulite. Furthermore, they argued that the methodologies were flawed, leading to insufficient analysis data.

Laser Cellulite Reduction

This minimally-invasive therapy inserts a tiny laser probe under your skin. The laser then heats the tissue under your skin to reduce fat thickness and fibrous bands. During the procedure, the heat stimulates collagen production, which leads to improved skin quality.

Researchers in a multi-study used a  wavelength laser for cellulite reduction on 57 people. The study found that laser therapy improved the cellulite area even after one-year post-therapy. However, a researcher points out that laser effects may not altogether remove cellulite. The researcher adds that extensive tissue remodeling is required to achieve the end goal. According to them, what may work well is a combination therapy.

Mechanical Cellulite Reduction

It is a minimally invasive procedure that uses the microblade technique. First, the fibrous bands under your skin are released using a microblade. Once these fibrous bands are removed, your outer skin gets smoother without dimples.

A multicenter US study reported one brand’s efficacy. They revealed the subcision method improved the appearance of cellulite in 98% of the 55 participants, even after two years post-therapy.

However, you have to consider post-therapy care, a medical practitioner may require you to wear compression garments after the procedure. Your total recovery takes about two to four weeks. Results can be seen in about three months.

Takeaway

You can choose from many cellulite reduction therapies. These therapies are safe and may rarely have minor side effects. In addition, studies have shown their efficacy through subjective reporting of the participants and visual proof. The overall results, though, may not be permanent.

The best cellulite reduction therapy for you depends on your preference. You have to think about the delivery method, procedure time, convenience, and cost. But, of course, each therapy has its pros and cons.

For instance, QWO offers a reasonably-priced and easy way of reducing cellulite in your buttocks. In addition, the procedure is fast with little to no downtime.

Summer is just around the corner, and now is the time to decide which therapy works best for you.
