At Infusion Clinic ABQ, we love microneedling because it targets the source of many skin issues...COLLAGEN.
In fact, microneedling is also called Collagen Induction Therapy.
Microneedling improves skin texture, firmness, and smoothness thru the promotion of collagen production. This collagen reduces fine lines, pigmentation, and pore size. It decreases the appearance of scars including acne scars and stretch marks. The skin appears revitalized and glowing.
After your session, you will only experience mild redness, and your skin will appear “tight”. It looks like you got a mild sunburn, and this lasts for about 24 hours. Most people go about their day normally. We recommend you avoid strenuous workouts after your session because the generated heat can be uncomfortable.
We use a revolutionary peptide called GHK-Cu with our microneedling sessions. GHK-Cu is a naturally produced tri-peptide that is known to decline with age. It reduces wrinkles, increases skin firmness, promotes wound healing, and decreases skin hyperpigmentation.
Our GHK-Cu is formulated with a slightly acidic pH so that it can readily penetrate the outer layer of the skin. This matched the slightly acidic nature of the skin. The safety profile of GHK-Cu peptide in sunscreens, facial creams, serums, and anti-wrinkle formulations has been well-established. Many products on the market that promote "copper peptide" is actually GHK-Cu.
GHK contains the amino acids glycine, histidine, and lysine with a copper complex. It stimulates the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, collagen, and other extracellular matrix molecules involved in tissue remodeling and healing.
We recommend 3-4 sessions 4-6 weeks apart and then a session every 4-6months to keep up with the natural aging processes. Scars and discolorations may need more sessions depending on severity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling in ABQ
Microneedling is a skin treatment that uses tiny needles to create micro injuries in the skin. The micro-”trauma” stimulates the skin to produce collagen. This “collagen induction” improves the appearance of various skin concerns including wrinkles, skin laxity and scars.
Microneedling can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, uneven skin tone, burns that have left impressions in the skin, and large pores.
Microneedling is generally considered safe and is available in many clinics in Albuquerque. It is important to use a trained and licensed professional because Fitzpatrick skin assessment and needle depth is crucial to the outcome. Aestheticians in New Mexico are only authorized to use micro-depths resulting in sub-par outcomes. Needle depths that are too aggressive can cause darkening and melasma. Make sure you are using a trained, licensed and experienced provider in ABQ.
Microneedling may be slightly uncomfortable, but most people tolerate the treatment well. The forehead area is generally the area with the most discomfort. We have found that ice application dramatically improves the comfort. We have also found that numbing creams actually seem to worsen discomfort. The procedure feels like a very aggressive cat tongue licking you.
A microneedling treatment typically takes 30-45 minutes.
The number of microneedling treatments needed will vary depending on the individual and their skin concerns. Most concerns take 3-6 rounds about 4-5 weeks apart. If the goal is wrinkle reduction then further one-time sessions are recommended every six months because time marches on. Scars, especially thick scars take more sessions but won’t need ongoing maintenance once desired results are achieved.
There is usually minimal downtime after microneedling, but the skin may be red and slightly swollen for a few hours to 1-2 days. The skin appears slightly windburned.
Microneedling can often be combined with some other skin treatments. We utilize a custom copper peptide compound during your session and recommend it between sessions. Chemical peels or other heat-based skin treatments should be avoided. Botox should be avoided one week before and the day of your microneedling session because the additional skin manipulation might cause the Botox to migrate resulting in unanticipated effects. If you have further questions or special circumstances, just book a Free Consult with our licensed providers to discuss the best approach.
The cost of microneedling varies from clinic to clinic. The Injection and Infusion Clinic of ABQ charges $220 - $320.
Insurance does not cover microneedling.
The potential side effects of microneedling include redness, swelling, skin irritation, and flaking, but these are temporary. Microneedling can improve melasma or skin darkening, but it can also cause melasma or skin darkening in darker skinned individuals may occur even with careful needle depth selection. We understand this is not ideal and will be more conservative on your first 1-2 sessions to assess how your skin responds to microneedling.
The results of microneedling can improve the appearance of scars permanently. Other skin conditions like wrinkles will improve and last for several months, but ongoing booster sessions are recommended to continue combating the aging process.
MOST people are excellent candidates for microneedling. However, some rare skin conditions or skin types may want to avoid microneedling. It is important to discuss your medical history with us before treatment. Generally, someone that uses medications for blood thinning or that have bleeding or clotting disorders should not have this treatment performed. Having a compromised immune system or certain skin conditions would also cause ineligibility. Schedule a free consultation with us to determine your eligibility for microneedling.
After we check you in, we provide you a moldable ice pack to start numbing your skin. Our RN will come assess your skin and discuss goals. They will then cleanse your skin, allowing you to continue applying the ice pack. They then attach a NEW, STERILE needle head and begin. We NEVER reuse needleheads. The provider then applies a special copper peptide cream to a section and runs the pen across that section in four different directions to ensure the entire area is addressed. The needle depth is adjusted based on skin type, primary problem, area being addressed and past results. You can expect to feel a scratching sensation similar to a cat licking you. You might also feel a warm sensation with s and general tightness of the area being treated. Some redness, like a windburn is common post-therapy.
After microneedling, it is important to keep the skin clean, moisturized, protected from the sun with sunscreen and a hat. You want to avoid touching or picking at the skin for the first 18-24 hours.
It is advisable to avoid certain activities, such as sun exposure, exposure to chlorine, using products meant for exfoliation, and strenuous exercise, before and after microneedling. Microneedling sessions and other skin treatments such as Botox should be avoided right before or after your session. Speak with our provider in ABQ to learn more about preparing for a microneedling appointment.
Microneedling can be used on most skin types and tones, but it is important to discuss any concerns with a provider before treatment. Active acne, unhealed wounds or active infections should not receive microneedling until those conditions are resolved. Those with active acne or rosacea should schedule a free consultation to discuss options.
Microneedling may be more suitable for some skin concerns than others. Other skin techniques are more aggressive with more dramatic results, but cause a significant amount of downtime and are quite a bit more expensive. Microneedling is gentler and has no downtime, but requires more sessions.
Microneedling can be used on the face and other areas of the body, depending on the skin concern being treated. Microneedling can be done for most parts of the body that require a boost in collagen except for areas such as above the eyes, or the lips. Lips do not contain collagen and would therefore not benefit from the collagen induction of microneedling.
When choosing a provider for microneedling in Albuquerque, it is important to research their qualifications and experience, and to ask about their training and safety protocols. Make sure you understand the license level and training of the person delivering microneedling.
